In a recent meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, District Magistrate Indira Vikram Singh announced strict regulations to enhance safety on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE). Considering the high speed on these expressways, two-wheelers are now prohibited on these roads. Any two-wheeler caught on these expressways will face a minimum fine of Rs 20,000.
Singh asserted that the substantial penalty was not a revenue-generating measure but a precautionary measure. The aim is to prevent two-wheeler riders from risking their lives by entering the expressways.
Review of dark spots
During the meeting, Singh reviewed the black spots identified on the roads. These locations include areas under the jurisdiction of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) such as Manipal Hospital, Sunderdeep College, Kaushik Dhaba, Toll Industry Kunj, and rest areas. Singh expressed dissatisfaction over the incomplete remedial measures at these locations, which were discussed in earlier meetings.

Singh directed the NCRTC to speed up the bidding process and sign an MoU for completion of bituminous work at the Ganganhar Rawli Road intersection. Moreover, he directed the Municipal Corporation and the Public Works Department to inspect and complete the repair of the Old Bus Stand Black Spot, which had deteriorated earlier.
Strict action against negligence
