One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting Saturday at a nightclub on H Street in Northeast D.C., police said.

According to officials, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Crew Lounge and Nightclub in the 1300 block of H Street Northeast just before midnight.

There they found three men and a woman who had been shot. All four were taken to hospitals by DC Fire and EMS, where one of the men, 31-year-old Blake Bozeman of Southeast DC, died.

Cruz is currently detained by police and his liquor license has been suspended pending his hearing.

“My friends and I want to come here but we are scared,” said JB, a local resident. He said open use of marijuana and drinking in clubs at night keeps him away from the area.

On Sunday, a statement from Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6A called on Mayor Bowser’s administration to take steps to reduce crime on the busy H St. corridor.

“The events that occurred at the Crew Lounge are a reminder of the urgent need for stronger measures to combat violence in our neighborhoods,” the statement said.

“We are calling on the Bowser administration to match his words about gun violence with an action plan to urgently address gun violence. We ask Crew Lounge owners and operators to immediately review their security plan to understand how they allowed a weapon inside their establishment and to immediately make the necessary changes.

Another resident, Peter, said he has been living here for many years and generally feels as safe as any other place in the city.

“Nothing good ever happens if you’re out walking alone anywhere at 2 in the night,” Peter said.

D.C. police described the suspect in Saturday’s shooting as a black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a white/cream sweater and a black hat. He was last seen walking westbound on H Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or text anonymously to 50411.
