A 10-car crash during the morning rush hour on Interstate 80 in West Des Moines resulted in congestion and an hour-long delay for travelers.
Ten vehicles were involved in the crash on eastbound I-80 just west of Jordan Creek Parkway about 7:45 a.m., according to Sgt. Alex Dinkla with the Iowa State Patrol. Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The road was blocked between Exit 118, Grand Prairie Parkway (near Waukee) and Exit 121, Jordan Creek Parkway (West Des Moines) for about an hour before the crash was cleared.

Construction zone on I-80 seeing ‘sharp increase’ in crashes
Dinkla said the area between downtown DeSoto and Jordan Creek Parkway is currently a construction zone, which has seen a “sharp increase” in crashes.
Dinkla said most of the time vehicles slow down when they reach a construction zone and a “chain reaction” of vehicles rear-ending as a result of a backup.
“People are driving too fast,” Dinkla said. “They are also not maintaining proper distancing and are not being patient during the morning rush hour.”
The biggest thing drivers can do to prevent these accidents is to slow down and increase their following distance by about three to five seconds.
