Investigators said the accident took place around 10.30 am when Rajan Kumar and his cousin Ankul Kumar, 16, were walking from their home in Mohammadpur Jharsa in Sector 36 to a cloth shop in Subhash Chowk.

According to the police, Rajan got money from his mother to buy new clothes and asked Ankul to accompany him to the shop.

Police quoted local shopkeepers as saying that the boys were standing on the road under the Delhi-Jaipur carriageway when Rajan suddenly started running in the other direction and collided with a speeding bus.

He said the passengers immediately informed the police control room and arranged for an ambulance to take the boy to Civil Hospital, Sector-10A for treatment. However, doctors declared Rajan dead on arrival.

Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Kumar said that the bus belonged to a private operator and was going to Gurugram from Jaipur.

“The driver fled leaving the vehicle a few hundred meters away from the spot. The bus was later impounded and taken to the Sector 37 police station,” he said, adding that police were trying to trace the driver and arrest him.

On a complaint by Arun Kumar, father of the deceased boy, an FIR was registered against the unidentified bus driver under sections 279 (speeding or riding on public road) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Sector 37 police station on Saturday

Meanwhile, the police said the exact sequence of events would emerge when the footage from the CCTV cameras installed on the stretch is scrutinised.
