A 17-year-old boy was beheaded with a sword in a fight over a piece of land in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur on Wednesday, PTI reported on Wednesday, citing police.
Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said the violence was the result of a land dispute between two villagers – Ramjit Yadav and Lalita Yadav.
“Ramesh Yadav, Lalita Yadav's son started clearing the disputed land this morning which escalated the tension,” he said, according to PTI. “During the clash, Ramesh attacked Ramjit Yadav's son Anurag Yadav with a sword and beheaded him.”
According to a report by NDTV, Anurag's assailant threw the weapon with such force that the young man's head was separated from his torso.
As soon as the incident was reported, several police teams were dispatched to the spot to prevent the law and order situation from deteriorating.
According to NDTV, villagers said the boy's mother sat with the severed head in her lap for several hours.
The police have arrested Lalita Yadav after the incident, but the search for her son Ramesh is on.
Jaunpur District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra said that those involved behind this incident will be severely punished.
“This is an old land dispute between the two parties and it is also pending in the civil court. I have sought a report on the dispute within three days,” Chandra said, reports NDTV.
Samajwadi Party's response
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party, which is in opposition in the state, hit out at the Yogi Adityanath-led government over the incident.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that there is no law and order left in the state.
“There is a strange paradoxical relationship between government and crime today. On the one hand, the two go hand in hand, on the other hand, the weaker and more passive the government becomes, the more powerful and active the criminals become. Today's UP says That we don't want BJP,” he wrote on X.
Bhim Army Chief Chandrasekhar He also condemned the incident and expressed his condolences to Anurag's family.
“The brutal killing of Taekwondo player Anurag Yadav in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh is very sad and reprehensible. My condolences to the family. May God give them the strength to bear this immense loss,” he wrote on X.
