2 vehicles collide on Mumbai Nagpur Expressway, 7 killed, 3 injured Mumbai News


Seven people were killed and three others seriously injured after two cars collided on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, also known as the Samrudhi Expressway, in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Saturday.

He said that the incident took place on Friday night at around 11 pm near Kadwanchi village.

The victims were residents of Malad (East) in Mumbai and Baldhana district, police said.

A multi-utility vehicle (MUV) traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction, killing six people on the spot. Another person later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,'' said a police official.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the MUV broke the crash barrier and fell on the left side of the road. He said that the local villagers and the police reached the spot to rescue the people trapped in the wreckage of the vehicles.

A festive offering

Medical Officer of Jalna Government District Hospital Dr. Umesh Jadhav said that six bodies were brought to the hospital for post-mortem. Three injured are being treated here, while one critically injured person, who was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajnagar district, later succumbed to his injuries.

Three of the dead are from Mumbai, while many others are from Baldhana district. He said that one person who was shifted to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is yet to be identified.

He further said that three injured persons belong to Mumbai.

Samrudhi Highway is a 701 km six-lane expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur. The first phase of the highway connecting Nagpur to Shirdi was inaugurated in December 2022.
