4 arrested for smuggling fake medicines in Ghaziabad


Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police have arrested four members of a gang allegedly involved in smuggling fake drugs in the city, an official said on Sunday.

He further said that the four were arrested near the railway station here on a tip-off.

DCP (City) Nipan Aggarwal said that the arrested gang members have been identified as Shripal (45), Mukesh (33), Chavez (23) and Puneet Mittal (33).

He added that the police recovered 20 packets of fake tablets of Augmentin 625 antibiotic and 10 packets of painkiller Ultracet and 26 rubber stamps.

The gang members admitted that they were procuring the fake drugs from Kotdwar city in Uttarakhand, police said, adding that they used to earn huge money by selling the drugs in medical stores.

The DCP said that the drug inspector was called and he took samples of the recovered drugs for testing.

He added that the police investigation would help in tracing the shops where the fake medicines were sent.
