6 upcoming mid-size electric SUVs in India

With the push for electric vehicles increasing every day, we are taking a look at 6 upcoming mid-size electric SUVs that will be launched in India.

1. Tata Curve EV

The Curve EV will have an exterior design that will be close to the concept albeit with a few changes to keep costs under control. We know that the Curve EV will be based on the Gen2 platform and powered by the Ziptron powertrain and will have a slightly larger battery than the Nexon EV so that the drivable range will come to at least 500 km. The interiors are expected to be premium and have modern touches to keep up with the competition.

2. Tata Harrier EV

The exterior of the Tata Harrier EV will be slightly redesigned and will take styling cues from the Curve concept. The front and rear fascia will feature a connected LED design and have blue accents to differentiate it as an EV. The interior is expected to be premium and closely related to the updated ICE version that is going to be launched soon.

Tata Harrier EV Concept

It will be based on Tata’s Gen2 platform, and the battery size is expected to be around 50-60 kWh, which will bring the drivable range closer to 500 km. Details on the electric motor are not available yet and we believe it will be a FWD setup with the motor placed on the front axle.

3. Maruti Suzuki eVX

The country’s largest four-wheeler manufacturer wants to get on the electric bandwagon, and they have a quite capable product with the eVX. Digital images of the updated version were recently released, and it looks great. The exterior has been updated with a slightly redesigned front fascia with more LED lighting, and the interiors have been revealed for the first time. No details have been revealed yet about the battery and motor, but we expect the size to be around 60kWh, ensuring a drivable range of around 550 km.

4. Hyundai Creta EV

The Korean manufacturer is updating the ICE version of its best-selling SUV, and we are expecting the EV version of the Creta to be launched before 2025. Barring a few tweaks, the exterior of the EV will remain largely similar to the updated Creta. Distinctive elements like the closed front grille and some blue colour. No details have been given regarding the battery and motor, but we expect the range to be around 450 km on a single charge.

5. Honda Elevate EV

Honda has launched its first mid-size SUV, the Elevate, and it has received a good number of bookings so far and most customers are happy with what the SUV has to offer. During the launch of the Elevate, Honda confirmed that there will not be a hybrid version that will use the setup that is currently used on the Honda City, but instead, they will be creating a full EV based on the Elevate. No details regarding the battery and motor have been revealed and we believe that the design of the EV will not be much different from the ICE version except for some changes in accent colors and some badging on the vehicle.

6. Toyota EV

Although Toyota is currently busy focusing on hybrid versions of its models in India, there are some plans for EVs as well. Its first full-fledged EV will be in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, and we believe it will be Toyota’s version of the EVX. There will be a few design changes to differentiate the Toyota from the MS version and most of these will be on the exterior while the interiors may see badge changes. The battery, powertrain and architecture will remain the same and this means the range can also be expected to be around 550 kms which is plenty for an EV of this size.
