Gurugram: After a nine-month manhunt, the Gurugram police have successfully arrested a youth who absconded after raping a three-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Dray alias Govind, was taken into custody by the police after receiving a tip-off about his whereabouts in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district. An FIR was registered under the POCSO Act by the Badshahpur police in Gurugram in January.
Authorities had a hard time catching Dre because he used nefarious methods to evade capture. Soon after committing the crime, he walked from Gurugram to a city in Madhya Pradesh, about 400 km away. By avoiding public transport, his aim was to ensure that the police could not trace his location.
Gurugram ACP Priyanshu Dewan revealed that the accused used to work as a laborer in Narsingpur district. Based on the information received, the police conducted a targeted raid, which led to Dre’s arrest. The police offered a reward of Rs 5000 for information about the arrest of the wanted criminal. The police had been looking for him for months.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to working as a laborer and living in a slum in Gurugram. He raped the three-year-old daughter while her father was away and then fled.
To evade arrest, he traveled to Barbhan village in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh. However, a persistent police search eventually led to his arrest.
Dre said that traveling on foot was a tactic to evade the police, as he did not use any form of public transportation during his trip. According to the Gurugram police, the accused will be produced before the court, where they will seek custody for further investigation.
