A 24-year-old man disguised himself as a senior citizen by dyeing his hair white and using a wheelchair at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in an attempt to get to Canada, officials familiar with the matter said. He has been arrested. by security personnel.
Officials said the accused has been identified as Guru Sevak Singh, a resident of Lucknow, who was caught with a passport in the name of 67-year-old Rashendra Singh Sahota from Bareilly. Police said Sahota's passport had a Canadian visa on it, but it was not immediately clear if it was related to Sahota Singh or a fake identity.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani said that they are investigating whether there is any gang that sends people abroad on fake identity.
Giving details of the case, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials said they zeroed in on a person whose activities were found to be suspicious, and stopped him at the check-in area of Terminal 3. On questioning, officials said he identified himself as Rashendra Singh Sahota, born in February 1957 and leaving for Canada on an Air Canada flight at 10:50 p.m.
“However, further examination of his passport revealed discrepancies. His appearance, voice and skin texture resembled that of a younger man. Closer observation revealed that he had dyed his hair and beard white. was done and was wearing glasses to show his age,” said CISF Assistant Inspector General Apuru Pandey.
After further questioning, he revealed that his real name was Guru Sewak Singh and that he was 24 years old, but was traveling on a passport issued in the name of Sahota.
“Since the case was of fake passport and impersonation, the passenger along with his luggage was handed over to the Delhi Police for legal action in the matter,” Pandey said.
A senior CISF official said they tried to make basic inquiries about the man and where he got the passport, but did not give any details.
“He was not sharing any details and hence it was decided to hand him over to the police for further investigation. It is also not clear why he went to Canada and why he chose this route,” the official said. said
DGP Rangani said the case was registered under sections 419 (cheating by forgery), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using fake document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. has gone “The accused has been arrested and further investigation is on in the matter to find out how he obtained the fake passport,” he said.
