Any ward in Gurgaon that maintains cleanliness standards for two consecutive months will get a prize of Rs 1 crore – weeks after the government initiative Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad launched the Solid Waste Environmental Excellence Performance (SWEEP). has come out. Waste management issues in the city. Under the reward scheme, a provision of Rs 50 lakh will also be made to the best performing ward for a month, officials said.

Division Commissioner RC Bidhan gave these details during a review meeting on Saturday. The officials discussed the activities under the program in Gurgaon as Budhan also reviewed the situation area wise.

Baidhan said the prize scheme of Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh was decided during a committee meeting organized under SWEEP, and an independent agency would check the cleanliness standards instead of the district administration or civic officials.

The officials said that the citizens of the ward will be able to use the prize money for the development of their area. During the meeting, Bidhan received ward-wise reports about the cleanliness drive. This development comes ahead of the Chief Secretary's inspection of the progress of the works carried out so far on Sunday.

He directed the officers to regularly monitor door-to-door garbage collection. He said that the status of waste at secondary points should be regularly updated through GIS mapping.

A festive offering

Municipal Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar said that 25 bulk generators of construction and demolition waste have been identified in the city. FIRs have been registered against four, and fines have been issued to 19 tractor-trolleys, officials said.
