A fresh graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ifunanya Miracle alias Bliss, has died while trying to escape the prank of a student who committed a robbery at the school premises in Awka area of Anambra State.
Afonia, a recent graduate of the Department of Quantitative Surveying, was on a tricycle with a friend identified only as Pace, a student in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, when he encountered them in the vehicle. Happened to a “bandit”.

She is said to have closed her business for the day on Sunday, June 9, 2024 and rode a tricycle with Pace.
During the journey, a passenger sitting next to them allegedly tried to rob them of their valuables.
To escape the robbery, the two students jumped from the moving tricycle.
A student at the school, who chose to remain anonymous, said: “Merkel has just graduated from university and runs a point-of-sale operation at the school. The incident happened around 7pm on June 9, 2024. She does her PoS business in front of my residence.
“She used to pack her business stuff under the stairs in our compound and the stuff is still there. She packed it and put it back there in the evening. But suddenly, we heard that she had died.
“We were like; she still dropped her luggage under the steps of our compound on Monday. From what we gathered, she was on a tricycle with her friend when a fellow passenger called them. Ordered.
“While trying to escape, Mijija jumped off the tricycle and hit her head on the road and by the time she was rushed to the hospital, she was dead. Her friend, who had also jumped off the tricycle, He sustained injuries and is still in hospital.”
Another student said the man, who ordered the victims to hand over their property, later claimed he was joking with them, adding that unconfirmed reports suggest That the person had reported himself to the police.
The student said, “We heard that the boy had reported himself to the police station and claimed that it was a prank. How could he prank someone on a moving tricycle? After the incident, we did some research. Not heard. This lady (miracle) died only because of the carelessness of some people who claimed to be joking.
“It could be that he wanted to return and when he saw the result of his actions, he turned the argument into a joke because of what happened. The university has not said anything about the matter. Fact It is that the school has not paid attention to it. The girl just did her convocation.
The school's spokesperson, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed the case and said the prankster, a final year student of the school, would face disciplinary action after the burial of Merkel.
He said, “The university is fully aware of the incident. It was not a robbery but a very expensive prank. The students were asked to bring their phones but they didn't know it was a prank. So, they jumped, one died and one survived.
“The families of the victims and the final year student who pranked the victims held a meeting with us and it was established that it was a prank.
“The families have reached some compromise and we want the burial to take place before the student who mocked them faces disciplinary action.
