Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was recently taken into police custody in connection with the murder of 33-year-old fan Renuka Swamy. While investigations continue with 17 people arrested so far in the case, the unsolved mystery of the disappearance of Darshan's former manager Mallikarjuna B Sankanagoudar has come to light.
According to a report by OneIndia, Mallikarjuna, a native of Karnataka's Gadag district, used to work closely with Darshan, managing his film schedules and various matters, but has been missing since 2016. His role went beyond the usual managerial duties as he ventured into film production and distribution. However, financial troubles dominated Mallikarjuna's professional life.
The report claimed that investments in film production led to huge losses and debt. His creditors included veteran actor Arjun Sarja, who reportedly lent him Rs 1 crore. This debt became a legal matter when Mr Sarja filed a suit to recover the loan citing an agreement related to the distribution of the film 'Prema Baraha', which he had directed.
According to reports, Mallikarjuna has allegedly embezzled around Rs 2 crore from Darshan. His sudden disappearance has left many questions unanswered, especially about the circumstances surrounding the loans and his financial dealings.
Despite repeated efforts by the police, Mallikarjuna has not been traced. The Thoogudeepa family has remained silent on the issue, leading to speculations about whether there has been a deliberate attempt to ignore the situation.
Renuka Swamy, a devoted fan of Darshan, was allegedly murdered on the orders of the actor. Mr Swamy, who worked in a pharmacy, was allegedly harassing Darshan's alleged girlfriend Pavithra Gowda by sending her objectionable messages and pictures. This infuriated Darshan and a brutal murder was plotted by a gang.
The police have arrested 17 people, including Darshan and Pavitra Gowda, in connection with the murder.
