Bhole Baba alias Narayan Sakhar Hari is likely to be arrested soon after over 100 people died in a stampede at his 'satsang' (religious gathering) in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on Tuesday. The self-styled deity, whose real name is Surajpal, is believed to be in his 'ashram' at Mainpuri, about 100 km from Phulrai village, where he performed this ritual with thousands of devotees in attendance. Several senior police officials have reached the scene of the stampede in Hathras, while others are at their ashram, the Ram Kathir Charitable Trust. Apart from the police personnel, an NDTV team also saw his followers gathering in large numbers at the ashram.

In Hathras, a forensic unit and a dog squad visited the stampede site. Teams from Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were also present.
At least 121 people, including more than 100 women and seven children, were killed and 28 others injured in the stampede in Hathras. The Uttar Pradesh government said six victims are yet to be identified.
A compensation of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for the injured.
President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.
How did the stampede happen in Hathras?
The venue where the stampede took place in Hathras was too small to accommodate the crowd that had gathered there on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. A woman attending the 'satsang' said that a stampede broke out as the crowd left.
As he was leaving after 'Satsang', his followers were in a rush to collect dust from the tire tracks of his car. This led to a stampede in which hundreds of people were trampled.

Devotees came from various districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as neighboring states for the 'Satang'.
A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
The panel will be headed by Additional Director General of Police, Agra and Aligarh Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said.
Case against organizers of Hathras Satsang
Officials said that a case has been registered against 'Sat Sang organizers' in Hathras. According to the FIR, permission was given for 80,000 people, but more than 250,000 devotees participated in the event.
“Due to uncontrollable crowd exiting the venue, devotees sitting on the ground were crushed, the crowd running across the water and muddy fields on the other side of the road was forcibly stopped by the organizing committee with sticks, which led to crowd pressure. continued to increase and women, children and men were crushed,” the FIR said.
“Police and administrative personnel present at the spot tried their best and sent the injured to the hospital with available resources but no cooperation was provided by the administrators,” the FIR added.

Godman behind Hathras 'Satsang'
Self-proclaimed Guru Narayana Sakhar Hari has often claimed to have worked with the Intelligence Bureau. He also told his devotees that he was spiritually inclined even while working and that he had resigned to pursue a spiritual path in the 1990s.
Born to Nanne Lal and Katuri Devi, a farmer in Bahadur Nagri village of Ita district in Uttar Pradesh, he completed his early education in the village.
He was reportedly a head constable in the local intelligence unit of the UP police. He left the police service in 1999 and later changed his name to Narayan Sakar Hari.
He claims that he began working for the Intelligence Bureau after college and was drawn to spirituality during his time there.
