A Telangana student celebrating his birthday in Toronto drowned while swimming in Praneet Lake. The family has requested immediate repatriation of his body to India.
A 24-year-old Indian student from Telangana drowned while swimming with friends in a lake in Toronto on his birthday. One Praneet, who hails from Merpet, had gone to Canada to pursue his master's degree and was celebrating his special day when the incident took place.
On Sunday morning, Praneet went for a swim but did not return. Local authorities were informed and it took more than 10 hours for rescue teams to reach the lake, her father A Ravi reported. According to several reports, Praneet's body was recovered later that evening.

The news reached the family on Monday through a friend of Praneet's brother. They are currently liaising with local authorities and friends in Canada to facilitate the repatriation of his body.
Praneet's father expressed deep grief over his son's death. He moved to Canada in 2019 for his studies, followed by his elder brother in 2022. The family is appealing to the government for help to speed up the process of bringing their beloved son back to Hyderabad.
