The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers following allegations of wrongful arrest of Mumbai-based actress and model Kadambari Jethwani.
Suspended IPS officers — former intelligence chief PSR Anjaniyulu, former Vijayawada police commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata and former Vijayawada deputy commissioner Vishal Gani — took action with Jethwani's arrest in Mumbai on February 2, allegedly in writing. without orders or sufficient evidence.
The suspended officers arrested the actor soon after the FIR was registered, raising fears of procedural irregularities.
Their actions defied standard investigative protocol, according to their suspension orders, which were issued based on a report by the Director General of Police (DGP), and signed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. .
On January 31, Anjaniolo directed Tata and Gini to go ahead with the actor's arrest, even before a formal case was filed.
The suspended officers are kept at their headquarters in Vijayawada.
Earlier, Additional Superintendent of Police (ACP) Hanumant Rao and Ibrahim Putnam Circle Inspector (CI) Satyanarayana were also suspended in this case.
What is the matter all about?
In August, Jethwani filed a complaint with the NTR District Police Commissioner, alleging that the police illegally arrested him and his family. The arrest was made by YSR Congress Party leader and film producer KVR Vidyasagar, who accused Jethwani and his family of forgery and extortion, the complaint said.
Jethwani and her parents were 'arrested' in Mumbai and brought to Vijayawada. He was kept in judicial custody for over 40 days before being granted bail. Jethwani alleged that he and his family were subjected to mental torture and humiliation by the police during interrogation.
Jethwani's lawyer N Srinivas alleged that Vidyasagar had fabricated land documents to frame Jethwani and his family and the police did not allow him to file a bail application for several days.
