Apple will gain an observer role on OpenAI's board under a landmark AI deal announced last month, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.
Phil Scheller, Apple's App Store chief and former marketing chief, has been chosen for the position, the report said.
According to the report, the board's arrangement will take effect later this year, and Schiller has not yet attended any meetings.
According to the report, the observer can attend board meetings, but does not have the right to vote or exercise other powers that directors usually have. However, observers have knowledge of how decisions are made in the company.
Apple and OpenAI declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.
The move follows Apple's announcement in June that it would incorporate OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT into its devices and integrate its new “Apple Intelligence” technology into its suite of apps, including virtual assistant Siri.
OpenAI said in March that it was appointing new directors to the board, including company CEO Sam Altman, former Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellman, former Sony Entertainment president Nicole Seligman and Instacart CEO Fiji Simo.
