There have already been some teething problems reported about the Apple iPhone 15 series and one of the most troubling problems is apparently the overheating issue that has affected the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published an article about the situation, stating that the problems are likely caused by the design of the smartphone rather than an inherent flaw in TSMC’s base N3 node (N3B), which was used for the Apple A17 Pro SoC.
The commenter actually specifically references “low heat dissipation areas” and “the use of a titanium frame” as two major contributors to iPhone 15 Pro overheating problems. Apple used titanium for its iPhone 15 Pro because it made the device lighter than its predecessor, which featured stainless steel (iPhone 15 Pro: 187 g/6.6 oz; iPhone 14 Pro: 206 g/7.27 oz). Was used. But titanium is not as good a thermal conductor as steel, with the latter being seen as a better choice for devices that need to cool more rapidly.
Furthermore, the analyst believes that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro suffers from cooling system “compromises”, which have made it unable to fully deal with the considerable power of the A17 Pro. There is hope that a future update may further optimize the processor to help reduce thermal issues, but as the overheating issue is caused by a physical design flaw of the iPhone 15 Pro, that won’t be fixed with an update. If this can be done, Apple may face an unwanted decline in sales in the near future.

The overheating issues of the iPhone 15 Pro series are not related to TSMC’s advanced 3nm node/iPhone 15 Pro.
