Apple is in advanced talks with OpenAI to use ChatGPT technology on iPhone

Apple (NASDAQ:) was reported to be nearing a deal with OpenAI to integrate the startup's AI technology into the iPhone, Bloomberg News reports.

The move is part of Apple's broader initiative to enhance its devices with artificial intelligence capabilities.

OpenAI's technology, which features the ChatGPIT chatbot, is expected to be included in the upcoming iPhone operating system iOS 18.

While the terms of the partnership are being finalized, Apple is expected to unveil a range of new AI features at its highly anticipated annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WDC) in June.

The tech giant aims to make a significant impact in the AI field, with plans to power some of its new AI functionalities through data centers powered by Apple's custom processors.

The development follows a statement from Apple CEO Tim Cook last year, who acknowledged using OpenAI's ChatGPT and promised to introduce new AI features on a “very thoughtful basis.”

In addition to OpenAI, Apple has held discussions with Google (NASDAQ:) regarding the potential use of Google's Gemini chatbot. The report said that although these talks have not yet resulted in any formal agreement, they are ongoing.
