Jadeja and Ashwin will strengthen India's spin attack against Bangladesh
IND vs BAN 1st Test: Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to feature among the spinners while Bumrah and Siraj will share the workload in the pace bowling department.
Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium is all set to host the first Test of India vs Bangladesh starting on Thursday. It is no surprise that the pitch at Chepauk will favour spin bowlers and there is a strong possibility that India will field three spinners and two pacers in this match.
If a PTI report is to be believed, spinners Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to feature, while Bumrah and Siraj will share the workload in the fast bowling department. Axar Patel may have to sit out despite his impressive all-round performances across formats.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has returned to the set-up for the first time since recovering from injuries he suffered in a horrific car accident in December 2022. Reports say Pant is expected to make it to the playing XI while Dhruv Jurel, who impressed in his debut series against England, will be benched in that position.
Focus on Jaiswal
Jaiswal, who has played 10 Tests this season, has emerged as a future megastar, having scored over 1000 runs in his first 9 Tests, with over 700 of those coming in a single series against England.
But on Monday in the nets, Bumrah dismissed the Mumbai youngster several times and even blew away his off stump several times. The young batsman certainly did not look in his best form and was seen playing with stiff hands while trying to make the balls move.
And it wasn't just Bumrah, but also net bowlers like Simarjeet Singh, Gurnoor Brar and Gurjanpreet Singh, who managed to get past his outside edge time and again.
At one point, the great Virat Kohli was seen talking to him and tried to explain where he was going wrong. Both Kohli and Jaiswal batted for almost an hour in turns and faced almost 50 balls. Jaiswal was more comfortable against the spinners as he would lean back to play the square cut at times.
India will have two more practice sessions before the series opener against Bangladesh as the Bangladesh team is full of confidence after winning the series in Pakistan.
