Fahadh Faasil's latest release, Aavesham, directed by Jeetu Madhavan, is now streaming on Prime Video. Let's see how the film is.

Bibi (Mithun Jai Shankar), Aju (Hipjaster), and Shanthan (Roshan Shahnawaz), hailing from Kerala, enroll in an engineering college in Bangalore. They get beaten up by their college seniors and all three decide to settle scores. Aju believes that getting local support will help him take revenge on his superiors. Soon he becomes friends with a local gangster, Ranga (Fahadh Faasil). The film is about how his friendship with Ranga affects the lives of Bibi, Aju and Shantan.

Plus points:

Some films rely too much on the characterization of the lead actor and Avesham falls into this category. Director Jeethu Madhavan has without a doubt created one of the strangest characterizations in recent times, but the best part is that he chose Fahadh Faasil for it.

The Malayalam actor has surprised everyone with his powerful performance. Everything Fahadh does in the film is very entertaining, and even his micro expressions will tickle people's socks off. Fahadh brought out the animal within him and made Aavesham an entertaining film. The actor's performance is so good that it is difficult to imagine anyone else in Ranga's place.

Mithun, Jai Shankar, Hipzster and Roshan Shahnawaz are settled in their respective roles. The three are suspicious of Fahadh Faasil's ability and believe that the goons are bragging too much about him. These scenes will create doubts in our minds, making the proceedings interesting. In a way, the director has added a touch of suspense to this action comedy.

There are a good number of enjoyable moments in both parts and the funny scenes work to a great extent. Sajin Gopu is brilliant as Fahadh's side-kick. The emotional moments at the end have been handled neatly without overdoing it.

Negative Points:

As said earlier, the film is entirely about the characterization of the protagonist and the plot is quite thin. Those expecting solid content may be a little disappointed. World-building and establishing characters take more time.

The pace is slow in some scenes in the second half, and some parts could have been edited out. Mansoor Ali Khan's role needed more depth. The actors could not make any impact due to writing problems.

technical aspects:

Sushin Shyam's songs and background score are solid and suit the theme of the film. Sameer Tahir's cinematography is superb and the fight scenes are brilliantly shot. The production values are clean, but the editing could have been better.

Though the plot is thin, Jeethu Madhavan has handled the film well by including entertaining moments at regular intervals. Half the battle is won by the director choosing Fahadh Faasil for the role of Ranga, and the actor has taken the film to a new level with his stellar performance.

Overall, Awesham offers a wild ride, and this action comedy mainly benefits from Fahadh Faasil's high-spirited performance. The actor lights up the screen with his remarkable screen presence, and Ranga is one of the most unconventional roles to come out in recent times. The story of the film is quite thin and its pace slows down in the second half. Some scenes could have been cut. The film's strength lies in its crazy moments, which offset its flaws. Hence, Aavesham proves to be an enjoyable fare. Rating: 3.25/5
