Uttar Pradesh bagged two new Guinness World Records during the Diputsu celebrations in Ayodhya on Wednesday.
The record was for the largest number of people who performed Diya rotation at one time and for the largest display of oil lamps, with 25,12,585 lakh lamps lit, which was organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and received by the district administration of Ayodhya.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received the certificate from a Guinness official during the ceremony.
More than 25 lakh lamps were lit.
More than 2.5 million clay lamps were lit on the banks of the Saryu River on the occasion of the 8th Diputsu, setting a world record for lighting the most lamps. Officials said the order was placed with local artisans.
Adityanath led the celebrations, lighting the first few lamps along with members of his cabinet to start the diputso, the first since the consecration of the Ramlala temple on January 22 this year.
The entire city was decorated for the occasion, with music dedicated to Lord Rama filling the air. Many ministers and dignitaries including Union Minister Gajinder Singh Shekhawat and Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak visited the Ram temple.
Ayodhya was abuzz with festivities on Wednesday as a procession depicting characters from the Ramayana passed through the temple town as part of the eighth Diputsu celebration.
At its conclusion, the procession carrying the mythological characters was greeted with an 'aarti' by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also pulled the chariot depicting Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman. The actors were seated.
The state government made arrangements to host around 5,000 to 6,000 people at the ghats, and forty jumbo LED screens were installed to telecast the event live. Diputso will feature performances by artistes from Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia, as well as a Ram Leela stage from Uttarakhand.
