BCCI announces Rs 125 crore prize money for T20 World Champion India

The BCCI will give a bonus of Rs 125 crore (about US$15 million) to the Indian team that wins the T20 World Cup. Board secretary Jai Shah made the announcement in a post on X, a day before India won the thrilling final against South Africa in Barbados by seven runs.

“I am delighted to announce prize money of Rs 125 crore for Team India for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024,” Shah posted. “The team has displayed exceptional talent, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

The ICC had already announced a cash prize of US$2.45 million for the winners of this World Cup and an additional $31,154 for each match (for each team) except the semi-finals and the final. The ICC's cash prize is the highest in the history of the men's T20 World Cup, US$850,000 more than the US$1.6 million won by England in 2022.

Overall, all teams will receive more prize/participation money than before this tournament. The total prize money for the tournament has more than doubled from USD 5.6 million in 2022 to USD 11.25 million this year, which means increased prizes for all 20 participating teams.

As runners-up, South Africa received US$1.28 million (over US$800,000 in 2022), while losing semi-finalists Afghanistan and England received US$787,500 (over US$400,000 in 2022) each.
