BCCI ignored Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul for Zimbabwe tour; find out why

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced to make three changes to the Indian squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, raising questions over the future of eight players including Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.

Earlier, the BCCI named Harshit Rana, Jitesh Singh and Sai Sudarshan in the squad in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson for the first two matches.

The three players were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which hit Barbados on June 30, following which the Barbados airport was closed and flights were cancelled.

If we look at the case of Ishan Kishan, he was an all-format player for the Indian team till the South Africa tour in 2023. After the tour, he asked for a break. Although there were many controversies, he appeared as a wicketkeeper for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2024.

Ishan was asked to play Ranji Trophy and some other domestic tournaments for Jharkhand, but he did not pay heed to the repeated orders of BCCI. After this, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were dropped from BCCI's central contract.

The second case is of seven other players including KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who were not selected for the Zimbabwe tour.

Varun Chakravarthy, Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, etc. were not considered for the bowling department during the selection.
