Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India after a video of BJP's Lok Sabha candidate for Hyderabad surfaced. K Madhvi LathaAt a polling booth, burqa-wearing women's IDs were checked and they were asked to remove their veils.

Latha and Owaisi are facing each other in Hyderabad, which the latter won by a huge margin in the last Lok Sabha elections.

Latha, who visited several polling booths after casting her own vote at Amrita Vidyalaya, stopped at a polling booth in Azampur, where she began checking the IDs of women waiting to vote. In one video, she asks a burqa-clad woman to lift her veil, which the latter does.

Latha warned the polling officials to allow voting only after proper verification of identity cards. He later claimed that there were discrepancies in the voter list and the names of many voters were missing.

The Latha controversy is nothing new. On April 17, a video allegedly showed him symbolically shooting an arrow at a mosque during a Sri Rama Navami rally. He later apologized and claimed that the video clip was incomplete.

As the video went viral on social media, Latha wrote on X, “It has come to my notice that a video of mine is being circulated in the media to create negativity. I want to clarify that this is an incomplete view. And if someone's sentiments are hurt because of such a video, I apologize because I respect all individuals.

A festive offering

Voting is in full swing in Telangana, where polling is underway for 17 Lok Sabha constituencies. While the turnout was high in Adilabad, Zaheerabad, Khammam, Mehboobabad and Nalgonda, Hyderabad and Secunderabad lagged behind.
