Cannes Film Festival 2024 security guard who quarreled with Kelly Rowland hugs fourth celebrity

A video of a female security guard who was seen clashing with several celebrities at this year's Cannes Film Festival has gone viral again, in which she is seen hugging another star.

The unidentified guard has faced backlash online after separate, heated clashes with high-profile guests including Dominican actor Maciel Taveras, former Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland and K-pop star Yuna.

The latest clip was posted by Ukrainian model and Miss Europe 2023 Sava Pontizka, who attended the festival last week.

Several videos circulating on social media and shared by Pontizka on TikTok and Instagram show the model grappling with the same female guard, who has her in her arms. At the top of the red-carpeted staircase, the two struggle with each other, with Pontizka falling to the floor at one point. She also attempts to run down the stairs, but is stopped by other staff members.

The female guard's colleagues had told earlier the daily mail that she was “just doing her job”, though many online have called for the woman to be fired.

In a clip that resurfaced this week, Yoona – who was in the K-pop group Girls' Generation before becoming an actress – is approached by a security guard who prevents her from taking photos. The guard holds her arm out, making it difficult for the actress to stop or wave to fans.

Though she continues to move forward, the actor, whose full name is Im Yoon-ah, appears surprised and uncomfortable during the conversation.

Rowland, 43, was seen berating the guard in a video posted last week. Rowland, who is Black, said other women on the carpet who “didn’t look like me” were not treated the same.

“The woman knows what happened; I know what happened,” Rowland told AP Entertainment. “I have boundaries, and I stand by those boundaries and that's it. And there were other women on that carpet who didn't look exactly like me.

“And he wasn't scolded or pushed or told to get off. And I stuck to my point, and he felt he should stick to his point. But I stuck to my point.”

During the altercation with Maciel Taveras, the same guard was seen placing his hands on the TV presenter's head and chest while she attempted to take him in. Taveras then turned around and placed his hands on the guard's face and pushed him.

Taveras, who has starred in films including The Other Penelope, reposted articles containing Rowland's comments about the same red carpet security guard on her Instagram Story, and later said she had reacted strongly because she was “tired of the abuse”.

Addressing Rowland in an Instagram post, she wrote: “I am impressed with how you handled it sister, I didn’t know this had happened to you before, I was so impressed how calm and civil you were because in my case I was tired of being abused, -Black Women Matters- we will not be silent in situations like this, we need respect.”

Colleagues of the security guard told the Daily Mail that she was “just doing her job”. It is understood the guard is a local French woman on a short-term contract with the festival.

A source told the Mail that guards were “working under a lot of pressure” to keep those on the carpet in check, and that allegations of racism or discrimination were “ridiculous”.

Independent Ponytska has sent an email to the Cannes Film Festival seeking comment on the incidents involving Yuna, Taveras and Rolland.
