New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought the court's permission to conduct a polygraph test on Kolkata Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anup Dutta. RG Kar Medical College A doctor's rape-murder case, officials said Tuesday.
According to reports, Dutta was allegedly instrumental in extending various favors to Roy, he said. The Central Investigation Agency is trying to find out whether Rai told Dutta about the crime and got any help.
He said that the court will decide on the request for polygraph test after obtaining Dutta's consent on the matter.
Earlier, the CBI completed a polygraph test on former medical college principal Sandeep Ghosh on Saturday, on the third day of subjecting him to a series of deception detection tests (DDT), he said.
He underwent a layered voice analysis on Saturday, followed by a polygraph test on Monday. The test on Monday could not be completed so it was resumed on Tuesday.
In the next few days, the agency plans to conduct polygraph tests on six other persons, including prime accused Sanjay Roy, four doctors, and a citizen volunteer.
After the court's approval on Friday, a team of experts from New Delhi arrived in Kolkata on Saturday to conduct the procedure, also known as lie detector test. The civic volunteer, who accompanied Roy to two neighborhoods in the city before the alleged crime, reported to the CBI. The volunteer noted that Roy appeared normal and began drinking shortly after the crime was reported.
According to Soura Bandyopadhyay, Roy's lawyer of the Legal Aid Defense Council System (South 24 Parganas), the CBI team visited Roy at the Presidency Jail to explain the process of examination in the presence of a judicial magistrate. The purpose of the polygraph test is to corroborate Ghosh's statements about the events of August 8-9. Also, the CBI has questioned ASI Anoop Dutta, who is allegedly close to Roy.
