Raipur: Another person has been arrested in connection with the June 7 killing of three cattle transporters from Uttar Pradesh in Chhattisgarh state capital Raipur, police said on Monday.
The suspect, Raja Aggarwal, was detained on Sunday from the walled area of Rajandgaon district where he was hiding with his relatives, and was produced before a magistrate on Monday.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mob lynching case had earlier arrested accused Harish Mishra from Borsi area of Durg district.
A case has been registered against the two accused under Indian Penal Code sections 304 (culpable homicide not being murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 34 (common intention), the official said.
Four of his accomplices, including the main accused in the case, are still absconding.
“Raids are being conducted at various locations and more arrests will be made,” a police officer said.
On June 7, three cattle transporters from Uttar Pradesh were traveling from Mahasamand to Raipur in a truck loaded with buffaloes when they were stopped and beaten up by a group of men near a bridge over the Mahanadi river in Arang district on June 7.
Two of them Guddu Khan (35) and Chandmiya Khan (23) died on the spot. The third victim, Saddam Qureshi, was taken to the hospital with injuries. He died 10 days later on June 18.
All three were residents of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
