Construction work: A year has passed, work on the storm water drain has begun Gurgaon News

Gurgaon: GMDA Fully ready to build a. Storm water drain between AIT Chowk and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), one year after initial approval for the project.
The Metropolitan Authority awarded the contract to an agency earlier this week. Construction of 1.5 km master drain along road bifurcation sectors 55-56, which will be connected to Leg 3 on SPR. Officials said the master drain will relieve waterlogging in and around Sectors 55, 56, 57, which are located in the foothills of the Aravalli, due to which rainwater comes down quickly.
At present there is no master drain in the area which causes heavy waterlogging during monsoons.
The project will cost the GMDA around Rs 3.9 crore and is expected to be completed by monsoon next year.
“Work on the construction of the box type drain will start soon, as we have already awarded the contract to an agency. Our aim is to channel the rainwater through this drain from the foothills of Aravalli to Leg 3. It is likely to be completed by June next year,” said a senior GMDA official.
Additionally, GMDA’s Infra-1 Division is also carrying out special repairs to the 1.2 km road connecting AIT Chowk and SPR to improve traffic flow in the area. The project, which includes re-carpeting the 12.5-metre-wide carriageway and 5.5-metre-wide service roads on both sides, began in June this year. A cycle track, footpaths and drains will also be constructed at a cost of around Rs 9.8 crore and this too is expected to be completed by June next year.
Residents have welcomed the development, saying construction of drains in the area is “absolutely necessary”. VMK Singh, a resident of Sun City, said that during heavy rains, the settlement gets completely submerged by rainwater.
“Whenever there is heavy rain, AIT Chowk gets flooded. Even the inner streets and the main gate are under water, causing severe problems to the residents. As the area is located at the lower end and hills. So we have been demanding from GMDA for a long time to find a permanent solution to this problem. We are happy that finally something is happening on the ground.
Meanwhile, others demanded that the work be carried out in a planned manner to avoid any major disruption to the flow of traffic. “This stretch is an important link between SPR and Golf Course Road and witnesses heavy traffic movement as many commuters use the road to go to Cyber Hub and Delhi. Residents of Sushant Lok 2 Sarvesh Mathur said that it is never too late to start something that will benefit the public, but the project should be executed in a planned manner and quickly.
