CLEVELAND, Ohio — The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio rose for the third consecutive week, rising from 1,370 last week to 1,489 this week, the state reported Thursday.
And the weekly case count remained above 1,000 for the third consecutive week. Earlier in June, it had crossed the 1,000-plus mark for the first time since early May.
Prior to this, the number of new cases had generally been declining since January.
The state reported that at least 1,373,279 Ohioans have received the updated one-dose COVID-19 vaccine, up 1,573 from last week. That's 11.7% of the state's population.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio since the beginning of 2020 has reached 3,752,878.

Fifty Ohioans were hospitalized last week, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic in 2020 to 151,711. One person was admitted to the ICU, bringing the total since 2020 to 15,819.
The state Health Department reported seven additional deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,001. Deaths sometimes take several weeks to be reported.
