A month after a fire at a children's hospital in east Delhi killed seven infants and injured five, an infant is fighting for his life with breathing complications and burn injuries.
The parents – Rakesh and Karisma recalled that terrifying night and said they remembered standing outside the hospital balcony to find out if their first child was alive.
On May 26, seven newborns died and five children were injured when a fire broke out at the Baby Care Newborn Hospital in East Delhi. Four of them were discharged after treatment.
“My daughter is still having trouble breathing after the fire incident. However, her burn marks are getting better with each passing day. She is still Chacha Nehra Bal,” Rakesh told PTI. is undergoing treatment in Chikatsalia,” Rakesh told PTI.
He said he was worried about his child's future and had decided never to tell him about his burns. But they also want justice for the parents who lost their children in the fire.
“Currently, I am devoting my full time to the hospital along with my wife. We have both taken leave from work and are focusing on her recovery,” he added.
The police had earlier said that during the investigation into the incident, they found that the hospital was operating despite the expiry of its licence. It did not have qualified doctors nor did they have clearance from the fire department.
