Reacting to Atashi's assumption of the chief ministership, Swati Maliwal called it an “unfortunate day” for Delhi.

AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has been asked by the party to resign after her comments on Atishi, who has been named as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Atashi was named the new Chief Minister of Delhi at a legislature party meeting earlier in the day chaired by Arvind Kejriwal.

Maliwal called Atishi an “Afzal Guru Ashiq” and said the AAP leader must answer for his links with the terrorist.

Reacting to Atashi taking over as chief minister, Swati Maliwal called it an “unfortunate day” for Delhi. He alleged that Atashi's family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from the death penalty. Maliwal further claimed that Atishi would only be a “dummy CM”.

“This is a very unfortunate day for Delhi. A woman like Atishi is going to be the Chief Minister of Delhi, whose own family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from the death penalty. Write pleas for mercy, that he is innocent, that he should not be hanged, that he is a victim of political conspiracy? Today Atshi will become Chief Minister, but we all know that he is just a “dummy CM”. “However, it is a big problem because she will be the Chief Minister and this matter is directly related to the security of the country as well. God save the people of Delhi from such a Chief Minister,” Maliwal said said

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that Atashi supported those who tried to insult India and that both her parents had written a mercy plea for Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Delhi's Tihar Jail on 9 February 2013. was given, in December 2001, for planning an attack on Parliament.

He has appointed Atishi as the Chief Minister. We welcome him but his background is questionable. Both his parents had written a mercy petition to the President of India for Afzal Guru. Atishi herself supports those who try to insult India. You can imagine what will happen if such a person becomes the chief minister,” he said.

AAP reacts to Swati Maliwal's comments on Atishi

Senior AAP leader and MLA Dilip Pandey accused Swati Maliwal of “reading BJP's script despite being sent to Parliament by you”.

“Swati Maliwal takes Rajya Sabha ticket from you but script to react from BJP. If she has any shame then she should resign as Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Choose the Rajya Sabha route on the ticket. If she wants to be in the Rajya Sabha, she should get a ticket from the BJP,” the AAP leader said.
