DMK MP Dayandhi Maran has filed a complaint that he received a phone call from an unknown person after which his bank account was debited with nearly Rs 1 lakh even though he did not provide any details to the caller. had not been shared, the police said here on Tuesday. Former Union Minister Dayandhi Maran, in his petition, said he received a phone call from an “unknown number” on October 8. After receiving the call, Rs 99,999 was debited from his bank account.

The complainant said he received a call from an unknown person, claiming to be a bank staff, who asked for “transaction details”. Although no information was shared with the caller, shortly after, an unauthorized transaction took place, the police said citing the complaint.

A case was registered by the Cybercrime Police Station (Central Crime Branch) on October 9 based on the complaint of the Lok Sabha MP.

“Investigations are on to trace the fraudsters and a request has been sent to the payment gateway to recover the missing amount as soon as possible,” the city police said in a press release.
