Doors are open for Rahul Dravid as BCCI invites applications for India head coach post ahead of T20 World Cup


With the T20 World Cup around the corner, the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Monday invited applications for the post of head coach for the men's senior cricket team. Indian head coach Rahul Dravid will have to reapply if the great batsman wants to extend his tenure with the Rohit Sharma-led side after the ICC T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States and former champions – West Indies.

As per the media advisory shared by BCCI, applications for the post should be submitted by 6pm on May 27, 2024. “The selection process will involve a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessment of shortlisted candidates.” BCCI said in a statement.

Although Team India has started the search for the new head coach of the men's cricket team, the apex cricket board has left the door open for Dravid. BCCI secretary Jay Shah told reporters in Mumbai that Dravid can reapply for the top post as his tenure ends in June.

'Rahul Dravid's tenure is coming to an end'

“We will invite applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid's tenure is ending. If he wants to continue, he will have to apply again. We are looking for a long-term coach for three years,” Shah told reporters. Thursday. Dravid was given extension after the 2023 World Cup. 'There is no example of different coaches'

BCCI Secretary Shah said that the new appointment will be for a tenure of three years. “There is no precedent in Indian cricket for different coaches for different formats. Also, we have many players who are players in all formats. There are many common players across formats like Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The players are there. Ultimately, it is the decision of the Cricket Advisory Committee and whatever decision they take, I will have to implement it.”
