Driver killed in crash with San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy


Authorities are investigating after a driver was killed in a crash involving a deputy Saturday in San Bernardino County.

At approximately 4 p.m., a deputy with the Apple Valley Police Department responded to a service call, activating emergency lights and sirens.


Authorities said the deputy was driving west on Bear Valley Road when a driver in a Toyota Corolla, who was turning left into the parking lot, collided with the deputy.

The Toyota driver was killed in the crash and the deputy suffered minor injuries.

Videos from the scene showed severe front damage to both vehicles. People were also seen standing around the accident site, which has shopping plazas on both sides.

The Toyota driver was only identified as a man. His name was not released. The injured deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Bear Valley Road between Kiowa Road and Snapping Turtle was closed to traffic for several hours while officials worked to clear the debris.

The investigation into this fatal accident is still ongoing.
