Dry days begin today in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad ahead of sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls 2024: Check all details here


As Delhi and its adjoining constituencies go to polls for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 25, all liquor shops and other licensed restaurants in Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram will remain closed from 6 pm today. Orders have been issued. May 23 to May 25 at 6 p.m.

Further, on June 4, the day of Lok Sabha election results, liquor will not be sold in these constituencies.

Dry days of Delhi

According to a notification issued by the Excise Department, several liquor shops and other licensed establishments in Delhi will remain closed for about 48 hours before the end of the polls, i.e. from 6 pm on May 23 to 6 pm on May 25. Alcohol will not be sold on June 4. , 2024, the date on which the Lok Sabha elections will be counted.

Dry days of Haryana

Voting will also be held in Haryana's Gurgaon on May 25. In another set of instructions issued by the Gurgaon district administration, all liquor shops in the city were asked to close for 48 hours before the Lok Sabha polls.

The sale of liquor will remain suspended on June 4, the date fixed for the counting of votes in Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the Gurugram district government exported illegal liquor worth Rs 61 lakh during the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

To promote free and fair voting in elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made it mandatory for cities that will observe a dry day on election day.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 6

In this phase, elections will be held in a total of 58 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 6 states and two Union Territories. In this phase, elections will be held on all 7 seats of Delhi and all 10 seats of Haryana.

In this phase, a total of 889 candidates from 6 states and two Union Territories will contest the elections. Polling will also be held in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency of Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had revised the polling date for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat from May 7 to May 25 due to logistical, communication and natural constraints related to connectivity.
