GURGAON: An arterial stretch connecting Dwarka Expressway to Manesar is all set for a major revamp. The six-lane main carriageway on both sides of the 5.3-km master road passing through Sectors 84-91 as well as service roads will be redeveloped under the project, GMDA officials said. The metropolitan authority had approved the Rs 77.7 crore project last January. A comprehensive upgradation of this vital section will be done to enhance the travel experience. The proposed redevelopment will follow the model of the ongoing Rampura-Patudi road project. We have issued a tender and are looking to complete the process within the next 3-4 months. We are hoping to start work on the ground after monsoon,” said a senior GMDA official. The road starts from the CPR interchange of the Dwarka Expressway and connects it to IMT Manesar via Sectors 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 and 91. Originally built by Haryana citizen Vikas Pradhikaran (HSV Pradhikaran) in 2010-2011. , has deteriorated considerably due to poor road surfaces and deep potholes. With the opening of the Dwarka Expressway, the traffic load on this road has increased manifold. According to GMDA, around 28,000 vehicles use this road every day. The key road provides direct connectivity from these sectors to Dwarka Expressway and further to NH-8, Sohna Road and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). The 5.3 km long road is home to several residential societies, commercial space, shopping complexes and schools while many projects are already occupied, others are either under construction or proposed. Also, Gurugram University, located along this road in Kankarola village in Sector 87, was inaugurated earlier this year. The entire campus is expected to be functional by the end of the year, which is expected to increase traffic on the road. Under the project, the main carriageways will be strengthened and upgraded and service roads will be constructed on both sides. Similarly, surface drains will be constructed to ensure proper drainage and prevent water logging, the GMDA official said. “Dedicated cycle tracks and footpaths will be developed to promote sustainable transportation and pedestrian safety. Green belts will also be developed in this regard. Besides, road safety furniture and street lights will be installed. to improve safety and visibility for all road users.” The official added. Residents have been demanding for years that the road be redeveloped due to its deteriorating condition and increasing traffic. “The current condition of the road makes movement very difficult, as there are numerous potholes and rough patches. The project will improve connectivity to Manesar's industrial areas and Gurugram University,” said Vivek Prakash, a resident of New Town Heights in Sector 86. said “This traffic is a nightmare for drivers. We welcome this initiative,” said Ashutosh Tarakru, a resident of DLF Sky Court in Sector 86. Meanwhile, the GMDA has decided to ease traffic congestion and The sector is also planning to construct a flyover on this stretch near the 85-86 intersection to streamline vehicular movement.
