Employee deletes Teams and emails from phone after company issues “no work from home” policy

Working from home became an absolute necessity during the pandemic. Now that the pandemic is behind us, more and more employers want their employees to come back to the office. However, employees are now looking for flexibility, freedom, and safety in their work and work environment. Recently, one such employee, who was not happy with his company's 'no working from home' policy, gave a brutal response.

An ex user @BladeoftheS shared a screenshot of the employee's Reddit post which has now gone viral. In the post, the Reddit user said that he works in IT and does most of his work from home. However, since his company now wants him in the office, the employee has deleted emails and Teams from his phone. As a result, he is no longer available after office hours.

“Recently my job told me I am not allowed to work from home, even during the snow storm that hit earlier this week. Even though I work in IT and do everything remotely, they want me in the office. So I deleted Teams and my email from my phone. I am no longer available after work hours. My boss tried to call me last night for something important but he was unable to reach me. He asked why today and explained what he was told. I am not allowed to work from home,” the post reads.

The post has now gone viral, and many people were impressed by the man's response, calling it “fair and reasonable”. Many also discussed how “working from home” is a better option for most employees as it saves time and money spent in commuting to the office.

One user said, “I work from home, it's great. I'm more productive, happier, and I don't have to spend 2 hours a day, 10 hours a week, or 40 hours a month commuting. It's just easier.”

Another said, “That's cool. Have you noticed how they make faces when you ask them to work from home, but when they need you on assistant rotation, you're suddenly able to do the most important work from anywhere?”

“Even if you're allowed to work from home, your boss shouldn't expect you to be available outside of work hours (unless your role is related to saving lives),” said a third.

“No matter what stage of your career you are in, don't answer calls from work. Boundaries are important,” said a fourth. “Maladaptive compliance. Surprisingly passive-aggressive,” said a fifth.
