Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed the “hype” surrounding Ruben Amorim's potential appointment “felt like” when Erik ten Hag initially joined the club.
Amorim is close to landing the United job after Ten Hague was sacked on Monday.
But Scholes is not impressed about the imminent appointment.
According to him, United should have tried to sign Thomas Tuchel.
Speaking on the overlapping fan debate, Scholes said: “I think Thomas Tuchel was the right man to coach Manchester United, but obviously now he's gone with England. He's someone who is an elite football club. Can manage and win big games. He's been there and done that.
He added: “On Reuben Amorim – [the hype] Eric feels a bit like Ten Hague. [joined Manchester United]. He is coming from the Portuguese league which is slightly better than the Dutch league. Everything he's done there has been good – he looks charismatic, and he's got something about him.
