Fake call center cheating foreign nationals busted in Gurugram 4 held

Gurugram: Police have busted a fake call center in Gurugram that was allegedly duping foreign nationals on the pretext of booking tickets for football and rugby matches and music concerts, officials said on Friday.

A police team on Friday conducted a raid on information that a bogus call center was being run from House No. 367, Sector-55 Gurugram and arrested four persons.

Call center operators Sonu, Akash Chauhan alias Sky, Suraj Kumar Bharti and Seemant Raghu were arrested, he said.

Police said that 4 laptops and 4 headphones were recovered from their possession.

To dupe people, the accused used to paste advertisements of football and rugby matches and music concerts on Google and provide toll-free numbers to the victims.

While booking tickets, the accused would force callers to purchase Walmart gift cards and tell them that there was a problem with their debit/credit card and ticket booking. Then asking for the numbers of these gift cards, those gift card numbers were redeemed by some Chinese nationals through Telegram and deposited the money into their crypto wallet.

One accused, Sonu, along with his associate Akash Chauhan used to share 50% of the profits. Apart from this, Sonu employed co-accused Suraj Kumar Bharti and Seemant Raghav as callers and gave them 30% of the profits. He also gave privileges to these people from time to time.

An FIR has been registered at the Cybercrime Police Station.
