The daughter of a Florida woman killed by an alligator has said her family is experiencing “grief and grief and excruciating pain.”

In a Facebook post, Breonna Dorris said her mother, Sabrina Peckham, was homeless and living in a wooded area near where she was attacked.

He said Ms Peckham, 41, was probably heading towards her camping site when “the crocodile attacked from the water”.

He also hit back at some claims made on social media about his mother.

“Some details I would like to share are that my mother did not ‘taunt’ the crocodile as some people are saying in the comments of news outlets,” Ms Dorris wrote.

“No matter how you say it, no one deserves to die like this.

Ms. Doris said, “To my mother: I love you more than you will ever know, I miss you more than you will ever know, and I pray that you will love me and your grandchildren. -Look at the granddaughters with contempt.”

“Our family is trying to cope with such a loss,” he wrote on a fundraising page.

He said the fundraiser would be used to help with funeral and burial costs, adding that more than $4,000 (£3,762) had been raised in the first 24 hours.

Police caught and killed the crocodile on Friday

Ms Peckham’s remains were found in a canal in Largo on Friday.

Authorities killed the 13 feet (4 m) long gator after a man noticed human remains in its jaws.

Jamarcus Bullard said he was on his way to a job interview when he saw an alligator with what he initially thought was a mannequin in its mouth.

“I saw it had a body in its mouth – like a lower torso – so once I saw that I ran straight to the fire department,” he told local broadcaster Fox 13.

The investigation will reveal the circumstances behind the woman’s death.
