A man reached a local hospital with a bag full of mosquitoes in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district on Friday.
Mansoor Ali Shaikh, a resident of Khortuba village in Mangalkot, collected about 25 to 30 mosquitoes and brought them to the hospital in a polythene bag, worrying about the potential danger. Dengue outbreak in the area,
Dr Zulfikar Ali, who was on duty at the time, initially thought the man had come with a medical emergency. However, he and the hospital staff were stunned to see mosquitoes.
Describing the situation, Mansoor said, “There is stagnant water around my shop. Mosquitoes are breeding there and there is a serious problem of mosquitoes and insects at our shop. There are a lot of mosquitoes and it is scary.”
“To protect myself and deal with the problem of mosquitoes, I caught some mosquitoes in a polythene bag and brought them to the hospital. In this way, doctor babu “Can detect mosquitoes and provide appropriate treatment.”
He further said that the drains in his area should be cleaned immediately.
Reacting to the incident, Mangalkot Panchayat Samiti Fisheries Officer Syed Baseer said he would bring the matter to the attention of the Block Medical Officer of Health (BMOH) and Block Development Officer (BDO).
He stressed the need for immediate action to control the mosquito problem in the area, including distribution of mosquito repellents and bleaching powder to deal with stagnant water.
