Former India fast bowler David Johnson passed away at the age of 52.
Known for his pace, Johnson came into the Indian team on the back of some fine performances for Karnataka in the domestic circuit. He took 10 wickets for 152 runs against Kerala in the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy season.
He made his Test debut in the Delhi Test against Australia in 1996. Johnson opened the bowling alongside his Karnataka teammate Venkatesh Prasad after Javagal Srinath was injured. He then toured South Africa and played the first Test. But his Test career lasted just two matches, in which he took three wickets, due to lack of control.
In first-class cricket, he took 125 wickets in 39 matches at an average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 47.4. Usually a lower-order batsman, he also scored one century in first-class cricket.
In 33 List A games he took 41 wickets. His last game of competitive cricket was in the Karnataka Premier League in 2015.
