Former Stanford HC David Shaw joins Broncos' front office

The Broncos have hired former Stanford head coach David Shaw as senior personnel executive, the team announced Thursday.

When Shaw resigns from Stanford in 2022, he expressed a desire to return to the NFL, where he spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach.

Shaw, 51, and Broncos coach Sean Payton worked together in 1997 as rising offensive assistants with the Eagles.

Shaw also served as an assistant with the Raiders and Ravens.

Last year, Shaw was one of the candidates interviewed for the Broncos’ head coaching job, which Payton was ultimately hired to.

This year, he interviewed for the Chargers' head coaching position which went to Jim Harbaugh.

Shaw is the most successful head coach in Stanford history, with a 96-54 record. He was the offensive coordinator on Harbaugh's staff in 2007 and was promoted to the head-coaching role in 2011 after Harbaugh left to coach the 49ers.
