With no major film releases this weekend, several Bollywood classics are set to re-release in theatres on August 30. After the successful re-run of Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwari-starrer Laila Majnu (2018), both parts of Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), R Madhavan-Dia Mirza's Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), the critically acclaimed folk horror Tumbbad (2018), and Kannada film Kariya (2003), starring jailed actor Darshan, are all set to hit the screens on August 30.
Gangs of Wasseypur, which was originally shot as one 321-minute film, was released in two parts in 2012. The films received widespread critical acclaim and were commercial successes at the box office. According to Sakanilka, both films were reportedly made on a collective budget of Rs 38 crore, earning Rs 33.90 crore and Rs 31.57 crore respectively.
Similarly, Tumbbad received positive reviews upon its release in October 2018. It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 5 crore. On the other hand, Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein received mixed reviews but gained popularity over time.

Besides, Nagarjuna-starrer Siva (1989) will be re-released in theatres on August 29, marking his 65th birthday. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan's Gabbar Singh (2012) will also be released on his 56th birthday. Another Nagarjuna film Mass (2004) was re-released on August 28. Earlier, films such as Chiranjeevi-starrer Indra and Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Gilli (2004) opened to packed houses upon re-release. Malayalam films such as Devadoothan (2000), and Manichitrathazhu (1993) are currently re-running in theatres in Kerala.
According to Sakanilka, Laila Majnu, which grossed around Rs 3.20 crore in India upon its original release in 2018, grossed almost double its original earnings – Rs 6.15 crore – upon re-release.
