After the recent video of India’s World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev being handcuffed surfaced on social media, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir had expressed concern over Kapil Dev’s health. In the video, two unknown people were forcibly taking Dev into a room. Netizens including Gambhir questioned the nature of this video whether it is real footage or could it be an elaborate advertising stunt? However, Gambhir took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the context behind the video.

Gambhir had posted on X, “Has anyone else got this clip? Hope it’s not actually @therealkapildev and Kapil paaji is fine!”

Now it has become clear that this video was part of the promo shoot for the upcoming ODI World Cup to be held in India.

Gambhir posted on Tuesday, “Hey Kapildev paaji well played! You will win the acting world cup too! Now you will always remember that the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is free on @DisneyPlusHS mobile.”

Kapil Dev started his international career in October 1978 against Pakistan.

Dev played 131 Test matches for India, scoring 5,248 runs and also took 438 wickets in the longest format of the game.

In One Day Internationals, the all-rounder represented the country in 225 games.

He took 253 wickets and scored 3,783 runs. Dev scored only one century in the limited overs format – the famous innings of 175 which came against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

In the same tournament, Kapil Dev’s heroics led India to win their first World Cup by defeating West Indies in the final.

The Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee ended his sporting career in 1994.
