Gemini AI makes its way into Google Messages

A new update is rolling out that will bring Gemini AI to Google Messages after Gmail already got the AI treatment, and Google announced the move more than a week ago. The feature isn't widely available yet, so you might have to wait a little longer for the update.

Essentially, Gemini AI is the same service as the standalone app on Android, but since it's integrated into the Messages app, it's easier to use and you can ask questions or give instructions without having to close the Messages app.

A new floating action button will appear on top of the “Start Chat” button in the bottom right corner, giving you faster and easier access to the AI service.

It is important to note that the AI does not read your private conversations and your chats with the said chatbot are not end-to-end encrypted, so you should be careful with the information you give Gemini. Your chat history with Gemini is stored for 18 months by default, but you can extend it to 36 months or reduce it to just 3 months. The Gemini AI will also not track your location. It will only know your general location based on your IP or home address so it can generate relevant information.
