Google has taken a significant step towards expanding its chatbot technology Gemini service to South Asian countries. The expansion is said to bring the app and its advanced features to users in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Turkey. Previously, it was available in select markets, and the move is in line with Google's mission to make its AI-powered chatbot accessible to a wider audience in the region.
Global rollout and device compatibility
Initially, the Gemini chatbot was only available on some Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones. However, with the latest expansion, it has been made available to more and more devices.
Notably, any smartphone equipped with 6GB RAM or more can seamlessly use Gemini AI in the Messages app. This rollout democratizes the use of Google's advanced messaging tool and expands its reach to millions of new users.
Enhancing Communications with Gemini AI
Gemini is designed to improve users' communication experience by providing intelligent assistance in crafting messages and brainstorming ideas. As of the time of writing, the chatbot supports languages such as French (in Canada) and English (in several countries), and more languages are expected to be added soon.
Google said it has underlined its commitment to expanding Gemini's linguistic and regional availability, with the aim of providing seamless AI support to users around the world.
Boycott of EU countries
Despite its wide reach, Gemini's rollout does not include countries in the European Union. This exclusion is primarily due to regulatory complexities and compliance issues in the region.
However, Google is focused on resolving these obstacles and hopes to expand Gemini's availability to EU regions in the future.
Gemini welcome in India and language support
Google expressed its excitement about launching Gemini in India and further stated that these services are designed keeping in mind India's diverse linguistic landscape, supporting English and nine Indian languages - Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Telugu, and Urdu. This inclusiveness ensures that a large portion of the Indian population can benefit from Gemini's AI-powered messaging capabilities.
Gemini Advanced: Introduction
Alongside the standard Gemini service, Google has also launched Gemini Advanced, which is powered by 1.5 Pro technology. This version of Gemini brings significant boosts to the chatbot's capabilities, including a 1 million token reference window, support for document uploads, and advanced data analysis features.
These enhancements are designed to streamline user productivity and provide stronger AI-powered support for more complex tasks.
Future expansions and enhancements from Google
Google's Gemini and Gemini Advanced in South Asia is an important milestone in its global strategy. The company has also assured users that the tech giant will continue to enhance the chatbot's functionality and make it available in more regions and languages.
