Google today announced that the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 will be getting the new Watch OS 5. The latest operating system will be available starting today on Pixel Watches running Watch OS 3.5 and Watch OS 4. Users will see a notification on their devices when the update is available next week.
The watch OS 5 update will bring better camera controls to older versions of smartwatch hardware, as well as add support for the Pixel Recorder and a grid-view app launcher. While early reports said there would also be watch OS 5, Google did not specify how the new operating system would help these older devices last longer before needing a recharge.
Google recently released the , which impressed us with its solid battery performance and other upgrades over last year. It was also the first Pixel smartwatch to boast WatchOS 5, following the operating system on Samsung's Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra.
