Spam UpdatesGoogle linked to their standard spam update document which states:
While Google's automated systems are constantly working to detect search spam, we sometimes make significant improvements to the way they work. When we do this, we refer to it as a Spam Updates And share them on our list of Google search ranking updates whenever they’re updated.
For example, Spambrain is our AI-based spam-prevention system. From time to time, we make improvements to that system so that it's better at recognizing spam and to help ensure that it can catch new types of spam.
Sites that change after the spam update should review our spam policies to make sure they are in compliance with them. Sites that violate our policies may rank lower in results or not appear in results at all. If our automated systems learn in a few months that the site complies with our spam policies, making changes may help improve the site.
In the case of the Link Spam Update (an update that specifically tackles link spam), making the change may not produce any improvement. This is because when our systems remove the effects of spammy links, any ranking advantage previously generated for your site by the links is lost. Any potential ranking advantage generated by those links cannot be regained.
Last Spam Update. The last spam update took place on March 5, 2024 and was named March 2024 Spam Update, it was completed on March 20.

Why do we care about this? This is the first Google search algorithm update since the big March 2024 core update and spam update. It's unclear what types of spam it targets, but if you see any ranking changes in the coming week, it may be related to this spam update.
